Filtered Tap Water or Bottled Water: Which is Better?

It’s a hot summer afternoon, so you stop in a local grocery store looking for some groceries. As you begin to check out, you walk pass a refrigerator filled with ice cold, bottled water. As you walk pass, you stick your hand and grab you a bottle to go. That simple, that quick, you are now a consumer of bottled water. Another hot summer afternoon, you are outside gardening or cleaning the bushes. You are suddenly famished and need some water to re-energize your body.  So, you go inside and pour a glass of water from the sink, a filtered source of water. With a number of different options to choose how to get your water from bottled to filtered, which water is the best water to drink this summer?

Bottled Water

We’ve all seen the commercials: Aquafina, Deer Park, Dasani, Fiji, and even Evian.  These are all different types of bottled water that states that your body needs water.  The bottle water claims their water is clean and purified from the deepest ends of the Earth. Bottled water is commercially integrated water that is bottled inside various sizes including 20 ounces to large gallon jugs.  Usually clear to see, bottle water is mass produced at a natural spring then filtered, and sealed in a bottle in a plant in different parts of the nation, even the world.

Filtered Tap Water

All the country music songs sing about it.  Playing outside and coming inside for some of grandma’s delicious water, but what they don’t mention is the water is fresh tap water. Tap water is purified at a central location or on premise with a well, but easy to access.  Either it be a local municipal or a well pump, the water is filtered with sand filters and s then processed with different chemicals to fight or kill against bacteria, coagulate organic particles or any other items that can affect the human body. On top of the being filtered and process, the water is constantly monitored to ensure the water is safe for consumption.

Bottled Water or Filtered Water: Who Wins?

Both options are filtered and can be commercially consumed; however, there are differences between the two. Bottled water does have an expiration date.  Consumers should follow this date, as well as, should consume bottled water after it has been exposed to extreme temperatures over a period of time.  For example, a bottle water that has been left inside a hot car in a summer afternoon.  According to Yahoo, over exposure of heat increases the level of antimony and bisphenol A (BPA), which is a metal element that can be found to contribute to lung, heart, and gastrointestinal diseases. On the other hand, filtered water is prone to local contaminants that can attack the source.  For example, Flint, Michigan has been the posterchild for contaminated water, so area residents are having to resort to drinking bottle water until the issue is resolved.  Same goes for post-natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina in the United States in 2005, Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013.

Filtered or Bottled Water: What’s the verdict?

When it comes down to bottled or filtered water, the answer is clear:  it’s the same.  It’s a personal preference or need.  Different people in different areas of the world might be more economical for them to drink tap water, but another set of people can only drink bottle water because it is the only clean source of water. However, if you are around the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area, a great option for you is filtered water.  A&T Well Pump provides well pump services to the triangle area.  Call us today  919-291-4063 to schedule an appointment.
